Click on the resolutions below the pictures to see the relevant picture (they will pop-up in a new window). These photos are from a offroad trip to Canungra old quarry area. I went with my mate Luke from the local beaurepairs tyre shop. These tracks were pretty rough, and I managed to bend my long tie-rod on one of the hills. There are some more pics of these tracks on the gold coast 4wd website http://www.goldcoast4wdclub.org.au/past_trips/canungra_quarry/canungra_quarry.htm | |
I'm scared I didn't know any of the other guys going, or how hard the tracks would be. Once I saw Stu's raised long travel jeep, with 35inch mud tyres, I thought these guys might be a bit serious. This is the first track off the road. Unfortunately no one could get up this sharp little pinch. |

Luke on the pinch
Luke tried to go straight up but didn't make it. He did manage to eventually get up it on an angle, such that he wasn't trying to drive up the vertical section. You can tell where the vertical section is by the tyre rubber on the face. |
Steep. I didn't think I was going to go up it, but I was interested to see if my approach and departure angle was good enough to even get on it. |

What now?
Luke and I discussing where to go from here. |
Posing
I thought I'd just sit here and pose for the camera. |

On my way again
I reversed out of the pinch, and went around it. The rest of the track was still rough and gave the Hilux in our group some issues. |

What? Where?
I don't know what I was looking at here |
Be my guide Here's Stu guiding Luke, note the hand gestures don't accurately indicate the angle Luke will soon be on. |

43 degrees This is how to try to roll a landcruiser. Luckily if it did roll it wouldn't have went very far. Everyone ran over to the car to support it straight after this pic. |
Tracks everywhere
You can see quite a few different tracks here. Canungra is a good little playground because of the variety of tracks and lines which you can take. |

Decisions Decisions
There were two big ruts here and I had to chose my line carefully. I chose a bad line and ended up with one front wheel miles up in the air and the car on a real bad angle. Unfortunately my camera person got scared and covered her eyes because she thought I was going to roll. So there is no photo :( |
Last hill
This was the last hill I went up, since I bent my tie-rod on the hill before. We manage to straighten my tie rod to a reasonable state with a large log. Then I did a quick wheel alignment and took the car out of that place real careful, so I didn't rebend the weakened tie-rod. |
